System Types

In pages 4-12 of your Owner’s Guide you will find a description of your septic system features.

Cluster Dual

With a central cluster hook up you have a septic tank and pump station on your property. The effluent is pumped to an off-site community drain field.  An off-site community drainfield operation is the same as an on-site or private drain field. Excess water usage will cause your community drain field to prematurely fail.  Please refer to pages 12-25 in your Owner’s Guide for additional information. There is a control panel with a red alarm light in your yard or your neighbor’s yard. The control panel is for the operation of the pump station.  If the alarm light comes on this indicates a problem with the pump station. Please call the District’s office immediately.

Cluster Single

With a central cluster hook up you have a septic tank and pump station on your property. The effluent is pumped to an off-site community drain field.  An off-site community drainfield operation is the same as an on-site or private drain field. Excess water usage will cause your community drain field to prematurely fail.  Please refer to pages 12-25 in your Owner’s Guide for additional information. There is a control panel with a red alarm light in your yard. The control panel is for the operation of the pump station.  If the alarm light comes on this indicates a problem with the pump station. Please call the District’s office immediately.

Mound System

With a mound you will need to maintain a grass cover over the mound.  Over watering the grass, digging, planting trees, shrubs or a garden over the drainfield will cause the drain field to fail.  Excess water usage will also cause your drain field to fail prematurely. Please refer to pages 12-25 in your Owner’s guide for additional information.

Onsite Gravity

With gravity to soil treatment system you have a septic tank and drain field on your property. Excess water usage will cause your drain field to prematurely fail.  Please refer to pages 12-25 in your Owner’s Guide for additional information.

Onsite Pump

With this type of system you have a septic tank and pump station on your property.  The control panel you may see in your yard is for the operation of the pump station. The effluent from the septic tank is pumped to your on-site drain field. Do not plant trees, shrubs or a garden over the drain field, septic tank or lift station. Over watering the grass and excess water usage in your home will cause your drain field to prematurely fail. Please refer to pages 12-25 in your Owner’s Guide for additional information.

Holding Tank

With a holding tank you will need to monitor the water level in the tank.  When the tank is full you will need to have it pumped. Under Minnesota State Code you must hire a licensed septic pumper to remove and dispose of the septage at a proper site.

Outhouse/Vault

With an outhouse/vault septic system. This is either an open pit or bathroom directly over a sealed tank. This type of system is for rustic or primitive sites. If the property has a well located on it, it needs a full septic system.
